Dear Students (and Learning Partners)
These birds used to visit our school regularly, but recently, have not been sighted, due to the ongoing construction work. I wonder if you noticed them earlier?
The Hoopoe (Upopa epops) is an insect eater, often seen pecking for earthworms on the lawn. This was a common sight on our school lawn.
The Black-rumped Flame-back Woodpecker (Dinopium benghalense) is an insect eater, sometimes seen pecking at the trunks of tall trees for grubs and larvae. I saw this bird occasionally along the Dandi-Jahangirabad road.
The White-breasted Kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) eats tiny fish and tadpoles or shrimps from the irrigation canals along our fields. Have you also seen this bird sitting on the telegraph wires as you come to school?
What other birds have you seen on your way to school? You can tell me in Comments. I have seen quite a few – but I’ll save them for future posts.
Meanwhile, happy birdwatching!
Principal
